Soupy…

SoupyI felt compelled to share this with the world because it truly is sad. I won’t mention any names but you know who you are.

There has been an ongoing feud between me and soupy since as long as I can remember as to who is the best at Street Fighter. I’m not a sore loser and will admit when I have met my match but soupy cannot see when he is beaten.

After years and years of battles soupy still has delusions that he is better, lucky for the both of us SFII Turbo HD Remix was recently released which would let compete once again to see who is the best. I already knew what the outcome would be, but to entertain soupy I decided to let him have a chance. There was no surprise when soupy got thrashed yet continued ranting at how he was the best, excessive knocks to the head really do cause brain damage.

My skill has risen to a plateau that unfortunately soupy cannot ever reach, I suppose you always need someone to warm up on.

The image above illustrates soupie’s skill in street figher, I don’t think I need to say more. As they say a picture speaks a thousand words.

No more UIQ

I was browsing the web the other day and came across the SDK for UIQ. It instantly sparked my interest as I have a SE P1i so I thought it would be a great opportunity to develop a game on the platform.

I only then found out that UIQ was to be no more as Sony Ericsson had announced they would not be developing any more UIQ phones. Even the new SE Xperia is running Win Mobile. Checking the UIQ website it appeared as though they were working on updating the interface, what a shame.

That obviously made me question whether or not I would want to invest the time and effort into developing for the platform as its future seemed doomed. I must admit I didn’t like UIQ at first but it has grown on me since.

I may download the SDK and have a play around and see what it’s like, never hurts to look.

Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

SFII Turbo HD Remix

I had mixed feelings about getting this as I already purchased both of the Street Fighters on Virtual Console and really didn’t want another ‘one’.

The biggest draw in for me was the online multi-player which meant I could compete against my friends in the comfort of my own home. I remember the beta had severe connection problems but I was confident Capcom would have those issues ironed out by the final build.

It’s really a solid title and a must for any SF veteran and new comers alike. While the arcade mode hasn’t changed much the online multi-player scoreboard matches are great and breathe a lot of life into an old gem like this. Now all those hardcore fans can compete to see who is the true world warrior.

This has to be the best Street Fighter I’ve played in a while and will hold me until SFIV is out next month, can’t wait.

Goldeneye on XBLA

I was thinking today about Goldeneye on the N64 and how many hours I lost playing it with my friends. It is such a shame that it is in limbo at the moment on the Xbox 360 because that is a game I would definitely buy. Granted I don’t have a 360 but that’s a small matter.

I mean I could always go and get an old N64 and the cartridge but updated graphics and online multiplayer sounded too good to be true (apparently it was). The 360 version sounded like what all us 007 fanboys had been waiting for.

I was hoping there was a chance it would come to the Wii’s virtual console, but the chances of that happening are even slimmer.

If you really need a fix there is always Goldeneye: Source on the PC. I haven’t checked it out recently because I don’t have my gaming PC anymore but when I played it during its Beta it looked very promising.

LittleBigPlanet

I picked up a copy of LittleBigPlanet on Friday after seeing it in my local game store. I read most of the previews and review of the game and had been anticipating its release for some time but at the same time I wasn’t that excited about buying it. That was until I got home and started playing it, the game is amazing and more importantly, extremely entertaining.

I started playing through the story mode and reached the 4th scenario when I decided to give the level creation a go. I was met by a host of pleasant tutorials which guided me through the basics of creating content. Once I had finished, I decided to build my first level and all I can say is I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun. This is where the game really shines and I know I will be messing around with this mode for a long time to come.

The game is so refreshing and unique and is a true joy to play. I had a chance to play online with others as well and that too was a lot of fun, the only thing that let me down was the poor quality of my Internet connection.

I had a choice between this, Resistance 2 or FarCry 2 when I went into the store on Friday but I’m glad I chose this, besides I’ve played countless first person shooters so waiting for a while longer for 2 more won’t hurt.
