New vehicle at last

Posted in Vehicles, Work with tags , , on October 29, 2008 by michael b

I finally got my new vehicle and I love it. It’s an all black 3.0L diesel ISUZU DMAX pickup.

I was considering gettiing a car but my journey to work is pretty rough and the road is full of pot holes and craters so I opted for something a little more rugged. I can say I haven’t been disappointed so far which is a good sign.

After getting my own wheels I also thought I would be able to come home at a set time but as it turns out I’m staying at work even longer but that’s a small trade off for driving this baby!

Anyway at least now I’m no longer waiting on people for rides to and from work which is a great feeling it’s just me and the road.

More time with the P1i

I wrote my impressions of this phone a while back and all in all I was happy with the phone. This is more of a revisit of its features.

I recently had the BlackBerry service enabled on my sim card as it was necessary for me to stay up tp date with my work email. I have to say I have been impressed so far with it’s use of the BlackBerry connect software, it’s almost or just as good as a BlackBerry. The one little issue that disappointed me was the lack of a BlackBerry messenger but I can live without it. I hope this is something Sony addresses in the near future whether it be for this model or future handsets.

A major issue I had was the battery life of the P1i when I first received it. I’m happy to say after several charging cycles I have noticed a big improvement. The battery seems to last a lot longer now which is a relief as I am always making or receiving calls. Now that I added the BB service as well I feared that it would suck more energy out of the battery but I was pleasantly surprised as it appeared to have a small footprint on battery usage.

I am still very pleased with my purchase and it’s great I can have most of the functionality of a BlackBerry without having to own one. Don’t get me wrong I think BBs are good handsets but I like the media capabilities and design of Sony Ericsson handsets so I get the best of both worlds.

After owning this model I would definately invest in another Sony Ericsson handset when I plan to upgrade I just hope they address some of the nigly issues with this model.

WoW, again?

I started getting my usual WoW withdrawls the other day so I decided to download a 10 day USA trial.

I previously have 2 high level characters on a  European server but unfortunately playing from Barbados the latency is too much for me to bear. It reminds me of the days at University when I to tunnel outside of the network just to play urgh.

That essentially means I have to start a whole new character from level 1. I am very hesitant about creating new characters due to the amount of time it takes to level them up and quite frankly I don’t have nearly as much time as I used to. So the question is what am I going to do. I figured I would see how I felt after the 10 days and go from there.

If I do decide to continue playing it will only be with rested xp which works out fine for me because I can grab a few hours a week and still level up at a decent rate. I am against giving up what little free time I have now to WoW as I have other interests I would like to pursue.

I know what has rekindled my interest in this game again, the upcoming expansion WoTLK. I am curious to see what updates they will bring to the game both in terms of gameplay and graphics. Now I’ve been playing WoW on and off since it’s initial release in 2004 so I have seen the game evolve in the past 4 years only for the better. I have a feeling though that this expansion is going to be more of the same, similar to the BC expansion.

I was considering playing for a month to see how I fair in both interest and game time as that would probably satisfy my cravings.

Giving in to the dark side

So the other day I had gone to collect a cable for an external HDD I bought a few days before and I happen to pass my game store. I said what the heck and decided to have a look what new stock they had received. I browsed the shelves but didn’t see anything particularly interesting until my eyes landed on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Now I said in a previous post that I had no intentions of buying the game because I wasn’t that impressed with the demo. That all changed when I actually saw it sitting on the shelf, I think the Star Wars fan in me got the better of me because I didn’t even hesitate to ask the guy working there to “give me that one “. I paid for it and left.

It’s only after I got home I realised what I did and was thinking to myself that I will be really disappointed with this game. I fired it up and gave it a go and believe it or not I am really enjoying the game so far. It’s not without its flaws but it is still an enjoyable game even more so because I’m such a Star Wars fan.

I’m glad I didn’t decide to wait before I got this as it has become one of my most played titles at the moment. Excellent impulse buy.

Winter 2008 lineup

Christmas is almost here again which means it’s time to break out your pocketbook and get ready to fork out some cash. The gaming industry is no exception to this rule as many of the AAA titles are released for the holiday season.

This is my Christmas purchase list:

  • Oct 21st LittleBigPlanet & FarCry 2
  • Oct 28th Fallout 3
  • Nov 4th Resistance 2
  • Nov 11th COD: World at War (maybe)
I may or may not go for the new COD as I recently bought COD4 but I’ll see how strapped for cash I am by then.
